Google has introduced a bunch of new features to make your shopping experience more personalised and easy. Here’s what new you get.

First, Meta has embedded its AI bot Meta AI across social media giants such as Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook to have quick conversations, create images, and a lot more. Now, Google is taking the AI challenge further while transforming its shopping platform by integrating artificial intelligence (AI). This will offer a smarter and more personalised shopping experience for you. 

The new shopping experience is powered by Google’s Gemini AI tool. What’s special about it is that it makes the experience personalised and mimics the process of asking friends or family for recommendations. According to Lilian Rincon, Google’s Vice President of Product Management, many shoppers often seek advice from their friends and family. This update aims to reduce the overwhelming nature of shopping by making the research process more manageable and less stressful. Not just that, Google combines AI with user reviews and data from various online sources to deliver relevant product suggestions. 

Google AI Shopping Experience: How It Works

When searching for an item, you’ll see an AI-generated brief that highlights key considerations, helping you make informed choices based on your needs. For example, if you search on Google for “Women’s oversized coat for winter,” it will provide an AI-generated summary, which includes essential factors to consider, such as materials and features relevant to your needs. The system will also recommend products from trusted sources and organise items into categories. 

Don’t want to have ready-made information available to you and enjoy researching? Google will also include links to articles that offer further insights into your choices. This means that whether you want a quick recommendation or a deep dive into product details, Google Shopping will have it all. 

What Else? 

To further simplify and filter out irrelevant searches, Google has introduced dynamic filters to narrow down your search based on specific criteria such as size, colour, and local availability. Another important addition is the virtual try-on option, which uses augmented reality (AR) to let you visualize how products, like clothing or accessories, would look on you before you make a purchase!

Moreover, your shopping homepage will now be customized based on your preferences and if you leave off your shopping session midway, you can easily pick up right where you left off. Google Shopping also helps you find the best deals. With features like price comparisons and tracking, you can stay informed about pricing trends and whether you’re getting a good deal.
