KS Eshwarappa takes a dig at BS Yediyurappa
“I am not contesting as an independent candidate from Shivamogga to go against the BJP or Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I am contesting independently because one family is controlling the BJP in Karnataka,” Eshwarappa said taking a dig at former chief minister BS Yediyurappa.
Eshwarappa will take on Yediyurappa’s son BY Raghavendra, who is contesting on a BJP ticket from Shivamogga.
After the BJP announced its 20 candidates who will be contested from Karnataka, Eshwarappa alleged that he was betrayed by Yediyurappa. Eshwarappa said that he had his plans to get a ticket for his son Kantesh but Yediyurappa stopped him from going to Delhi by promising that he would convince the high command to give a ticket to Kantesh.
In 2023, the BJP denied a ticket to Eshwarappa when he wanted to contest the Assembly elections from Shivamogga City. The party denied him a ticket even though he was a sitting MLA. He was expecting the BJP to give a ticket for his son KE Kantesh in Lok Sabha polls from Haveri but former chief minister Basavaraj Bommai is being fielded from that constituency.
Eshwarappa was forced to resign from his ministry is 2021 after his name was linked with a suicide of a civil engineer. He was given a clean chit in the case but he was not reinstated as minister. Eshwarappa is known for his headline-making Hindutva ideology and loyalty to the BJP.
