Ferrari F80: The €3.6 Million LaFerrari Successor | Auto News

Auto News

Ferrari has just taken the wraps off their new hypercar which, succeeding the LaFerrari. They will build just 799 units and here is everything you need to know about it.

The new generation of the hypercars is right here. We saw the launch of the P1 successor recently buy McLaren called the W1 and Ferrari has just unveiled the LaFerrari successor called the F80. It is a striking looking thing and features a hybrid V6 engine.

While Ferrari purists will be mad at hearing that the new hypercar doesn’t feature a V12, there is a lot of take in. First of all it produces 1200 bhp which is bonkers power. We love seeing manufacturers pushing the boundaries and the V6 is from a LeMans car so it is going to be everything and more than we can fathom.

Ferrari F80: Exterior and Interior Design

The Ferrari F80 features a design similar to what we saw on the recently launched V12 NA flagship, the 12Cilindri. The similarities end right there and it is a crazy looking thing. The butterfly doors house a very boxy looking shape which is almost reminiscent of the Enzo and there is no rear glass. The body merges into a subtle spoiler. The rear features a huge diffuser and a centrally mounted exhaust. The wheels are simple 5-spoke pieces which look like a combination of LaFerrari and Porsche Taycan.

The chassis an asymmetrical monocoque carbon tub. The rood is also made of carbon fibre while the front and rear subframes are made of aluminum. The aero work is right out of the books of Formula 1 and it will produce 460 kgs of downforce at 250 kmph at the front end while the rear will do 590 kgs of downforce. Combined it can produce a total of 1000 kgs of downforce at 250 kmph.

In terms of the interior, it is as crazy as the exterior. It feature a square/oval shaped steering wheel which is something right out of the racecars. The seats are directly mounted to the chassis, at least the passenger seat is and there is no infotainment screen. You just get a screen for the digital drivers display and a tiny screen in the centre console with climate control options.

Ferrari F80: Drivetrain

At the heart of it all is a 3.0L turbocharged V6 engine which alone produces 900 bhp and combined with the electric motors, it produces 1,184 bhp making it the most powerful Ferrari ever made. The engine is the same unit as in the 499P LeMans racecar and the 296. The V6 is a 120-degree hot-V setup but is quite a bit more powerful than the 296. It features the same 8-speed dual clutch transmission which has been specially tuned for this setup. All this means that the F80 will do 0-100 kmph in a mere 2.15 seconds and will flat out do 350 kmph.

There are three electric motors, two at the front and a third one sit between the transmission and the engine being powered by a 2.3 kW battery pack and producing a combined 325 bhp. It will have three modes, Hybrid, Performance and Qualify, all three of which are self explanatory. Surprisingly even though this is the second generation of the Ferrari hybrid hypercar, it cannot drive on full electric power.

The braking is another masterpiece and it feature the Brembo CCM-R braking technology specially developed in conjunction with Brembo. The carbon brakes have longer fibres and have over 100% more mechanical strength and 300% more thermal conductivity.

It also gets an active suspension which is from Multimatic. There are electric motors on each damper which can alter the damping force as required and even ensure stable aerodynamic platform when at full clip. Customer can choose between two tyre options, the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s or the Pilot Sport Cup 2Rs.

Ferrari F80: Pricing

The Ferrari F80 is priced at €3.6 million (around Rs 32.80 crore). This is one of the most expensive new Ferrari’s of all time and Ferrari will make only 799 of them. Deliveries will start from the end of next year. This is quite a bit more expensive that the McLaren W1.

All this has gotten excited for the third and final in the lineup, the Porsche Mission X.
