New Delhi: The majority of Manchester United supporters, according to a survey released on Tuesday, would prefer to build a new stadium than renovate Old Trafford. 52% of the 50,000 United season ticket holders, club members, and executive club members surveyed said they liked the concept of a new stadium, while 31% were in favor of renovating one of the most recognizable stadiums in sports. 17% more remained unsure.
United’s neighbors across the city Although Premier League rivals Liverpool have renovated their Anfield stadium, Manchester City moved out of their Maine Road stadium in 2003 to the new City of Manchester Stadium. A new stadium might be a part of a multi-billion-pound redevelopment project, according to United, who unveiled artist’s images of a possible Old Trafford regeneration project in September.

Together with the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force, which is made up of former United defender Gary Neville and World Athletics president Sebastian Coe, the club’s owners are weighing their alternatives. According to a few reports, a definitive decision regarding the choice is anticipated to be made in the first half of 2025. It is believed that rather than renovating Old Trafford, the Task Force concentrated its deliberations on constructing a new stadium with a capacity of 100,000.
“We know how important our home is to fans, and we need to listen to them and gain all their views and insights in order to develop the world-class stadium they deserve,” stated Rick McGagh, United’s director of fan interaction.
McGragh further suggested that to determine whether the opinions of their season ticket holders differ from those of their official members, they might examine the results from a number of perspectives, as well as whether fans of different ages have different perspectives.
