New Delhi: Virat Kohli’s poor run of form continued in the longest format as he got out on a duck after facing nine deliveries on the second day of the first Test match against New Zealand. After winning the toss and opting to bat first, India lost the wickets of the biggies within no time at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday.
Skipper Rohit Sharma was the first one to go on just 2 while Kohli followed him soon, getting out on an embarrassing duck. Young gun Sarfaraz Khan, who was expected to show up during the game, failed and departed for a duck leaving India tottering at 13/3 as rain interrupted the play. Meanwhile, Kohli, who has been struggling to score big runs in the recent past, was dismissed by Will O’Rourke without scoring a single run.
Kohli’s unwanted record
Virat Kohli was deceived by a short of length ball from the Kiwi pacer that flew off his gloves and Glenn Phillips completed a good catch at gully. By virtue of the dismissal, Kohli registered his 38th international duck – the most for any active cricketer along with New Zealand’s Tim Southee. Interestingly, skipper Rohit is third on the list with 33 international ducks to his name.
India, earlier, made two changes with Sarfaraz Khan replacing an injured Shubman Gill, who was not fully fit due to a neck stiffness. Other than this, Kuldeep Yadav replaced seamer Akash Deep as a third spinner. The first day’s play on Wednesday was washed out due to persistent rain.
