New Delhi: After Stage 1 of the Graded Response Action Plan was invoked in Delhi on October 14, Chief Minister Atishi made an announcement that Delhi government has constituted 99 teams charged with the responsibility of ensuring the implementation of the dust control measures. Apart from this, MCD will deploy 116 teams during day and night to inspect biomass burning.

On Tuesday, a meeting of senior officials of different departments was held which was chaired by CM. The announcement about the 99 teams was made by Atishi after the meeting. Representatives from DPCC, PWD, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and revenue department were included in the meeting.

Teams to report ‘Green War Room’ daily

Atishi told mediapersons, “Private and government construction sites will be inspected for compliance with dust-mitigation measures by 33 teams each from the revenue and industry departments, as well as DPCC (Delhi Pollution Control Committee). ‘Green War Room’ which monitors air quality control measures across the city will take the reports of findings from the 99 teams daily.

Additional 166 teams to prevent biomass burning

CM stated that, for monitoring the removal and proper disposal of construction and demolition waste during the day, 79 teams have been deployed by MCD. Additionally, 75 have been deployed for monitoring at night. For preventing biomass burning which increases the pollution levels significantly, additional 116 teams will work round-the-clock. “Our another priority is controlling road dust, for this the PWD has been tasked with repairing potholes for preventing dust from accumulating.”

Atishi added, “PWD will deploy 200 anti-smog guns, 80 by DMRC, 30 by MCD and 24 by NCRTC which will help in suppressing dust from roads and help in improving air quality. At the same time, the traffic police has been instructed to identify congestion hotspots and deploy extra personnel as and when needed. If required, home guards will be made available for managing traffic flow and keeping in check vehicle emissions from adding to the pollution.
