Cristiano Ronaldo showed his frustration as Portugal drew 0-0 with Scotland, marking their first dropped points in the Nations League.

New Delhi: Cristiano Ronaldo showed his frustration as Portugal played to a goalless draw against Scotland in their UEFA Nations League match at Hampden Park on Tuesday. The 39-year-old forward, looking to add to his 133 international goals, left the field visibly upset after not being able to score. He sarcastically applauded, waved his arms, and gave a thumbs down to the referee as he walked off.

This match was a big moment for Portugal, who had won their first three matches in the competition. They had previously beaten Croatia, Scotland, and Poland, putting them at the top of Group A1. However, after this draw, they dropped points for the first time this season. Portugal still leads the group with 10 points, three ahead of Croatia and six clear of Poland. Meanwhile, Scotland remains in last place with just one point, managing to avoid their fifth straight competitive loss with this hard-fought draw.

Midfielder Bernardo Silva expressed his disappointment after the game, saying, “There was a lot missing for Portugal tonight. We lacked intensity, didn’t attack at the right moments. We leave here frustrated.” Even though Portugal controlled possession, they struggled to create clear chances. Ronaldo had a few opportunities to score but couldn’t convert. Scotland had the best chance early on when Scott McTominay headed the ball too close to Portuguese goalkeeper Diogo Costa.

Ronaldo’s frustration was clear throughout the match, especially when he shot inches wide after a chaotic scramble with Scottish defenders. Bruno Fernandes, the Manchester United captain, nearly scored a last-minute winner, but his powerful strike was brilliantly saved by Craig Gordon, who caught the ball on the second attempt.

Scotland is still fighting to avoid being relegated from the top tier of the Nations League. They are three points behind Poland, who drew 3-3 with Croatia, with only two games left to play. Croatia is in second place, three points behind Portugal, whom they will host next month.

In his 216th international appearance, Ronaldo marked his 200th start for Portugal. However, the night ended in disappointment as he couldn’t score his 134th goal. The result means Portugal must wait to secure their place in the quarter-finals, while Scotland celebrated a much-needed point after a tough stretch.
