Cyberabad Special Operation Team (SOT) arrested choreographer Sheikh Jani Basha, also known as Jani Master on Thursday, September 19, a day after he was charged under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in a rape case on Wednesday and was absconding from police.

On late Wednesday evening, he was missing from his residence and his phone was unreachable. He was arrested from Goa on Thursday morning.
Booked under POCSO Act:
He was booked under POCSO after a 21-year-old woman filed a complaint against the choreographer for sexual harassment, rape and multiple threats on several occasions. Raidurgam police registered a zero FIR and later transferred the case to Narsingi police station.
In her complaint, the woman said that he would harass her on outdoor film shoots in various cities including Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case against him under the sections of the IPC 376,506, 323 (2) for rape, criminal intimidation, voluntarily causing hurt.
Sexual harassment redressal panel investigation:
On Tuesday, Telugu film chamber of commerce suspended him from his post as president of Telugu Film & TV Dance Directors Association and constituted an internal committee to probe how he recruited a minor dancer aged 16, five years ago.
The sexual harassment redressal panel has recorded the victim’s complaint and are under the process of preparing a report in parallel to the police investigation and will submit the report before the 90-day deadline, Jhansi, an actor who is the chairperson of the panel said.
The victim is now under the care of the state women’s commission.
