Southern Railway’s present network extends over a large area of India’s Southern Peninsula, covering the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Pondicherry, and a small portion of Andhra Pradesh.
Chennai: The relentless heavy rainfall in Chennai has severely disrupted train services, forcing Southern Railway to cancel 21 trains today. The cancellations primarily affect services to and from Chennai Central, leaving passengers stranded.
According to a notification issued by Southern Railway, several trains scheduled to depart from Central have been canceled, including the 16089 Bodhiyanayakur Express, 16203 Garudatri Express, 16057 Yercaud Express, 22650 Bangalore Mail, 12657 Mysuru Express, 12609 Coimbatore Intercity, 12607 Lalbagh Express, 12243 Bangalore Express, 12027 Mysore Express, and 12007 Tirupati Express.
Additionally, trains arriving at Central Railway Station have also been canceled, including the 20602 Bodinayakanur Express from Bodie, 16090 Elagiri Express from Jolarpetti, 16204 Garudatri Express from Tatti, 22650 Yerkadu Express from Erode, 12658 Bangalore Mail from Bangalore, 12608 Lalbagh Express from Bangalore, 12680 Coimbatore Intercity from Coimbatore, 12610 Mysore Express from Mysore, 12244 Coimbatore Shatabdi from Coimbatore, 12028 Bangalore Shatabdi from Bangalore, and 16054 Tirupati Express from Tirupati.
To mitigate the disruptions, Southern Railway has made alternative arrangements for some trains to operate from other stations. The 22919 Humsafar Express will depart from Avadi at 4:30 PM, while the 20677 Vijayawada Vande Bharat Express will run from Chennai Beach Railway Station at 5:30 AM. Other trains, including the 12675 Coimbatore Express, 22625 Bangalore Double Decker Express, 12639 Bangalore Brindavan Express, and 22601 Shirdi Express, will also operate from Chennai Beach Railway Station.
Passengers are advised to check with Southern Railway for updates and plan their journeys accordingly.
