Bengaluru: The National Cooperative Consumers Federation (NCCF) and Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Food & Public Distribution has together started an initiative of selling essential commodities to the residents in 112 locations of Bengaluru. The residents can avail the service just by using their Aadhaar card and phone number.

The step is intended to give relief to the people who are already afflicted from the soaring prices of the essential commodities. The facility would now provide rice, wheat flour, chana dal, and moong dal to the middle-class families including those who do not have ration cards. The facility would be available at 112 locations across Bengaluru and the arrangement for this has been made by National Cooperative Consumers Federation (NCCF), in association the Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Food & Public Distribution.

Service to soon reach other parts of city

As per a report by Bangalore Mirror, a distributor for NCCF, Bheem Rajesh informed that by producing Aadhaar card or mobile number at the authorised dealer of NCCF, each family can avail 10 kilograms of unpolished rice, 10 kg of wheat flour, 1 kg of chana dal, and 1 kg of moong dal. Rajesh said, “Before the Lok Sabha elections there was a provision to sell essential commodities at subsidised prices. After the Lok Sabha elections we have relaunched the sale of essential commodities on the occasion of Deepavali festival. By doing this Bengaluru becomes the second city where the sale of essential commodities has started once again after Lok Sabha elections.”

These will be the prices

Rajesh said that NCCF is working towards making this facility available to 112 locations of the city using mobile vans. He said that the information regarding timings and location of the mobile vans is being planned to be given by the use of boards. He said, “Until now we have made arrangements to provide the facility at 13 locations in Bengaluru North, 32 locations in Bengaluru West, and 12 locations in Bengaluru South. The information about the new locations will be given to the consumers. Bengaluru East and other zones have not yet got the facility but we are working continuously in this regard. The prices for the commodities are, rice at Rs 34 per kg, wheat flour at Rs 30 per kg, chana dal at Rs 70 per kg, and moong dal at Rs 107 per kg.
