AP liquor sales begin on Wednesday.
Private liquor shops were opened statewide in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, October 16 as new liquor policy went into force.
As the process of issuing licenses to 3,396 shops across the state has been completed, liquor sales began on Wednesday.
On Monday, the government held a lottery draw to allocate liquor licenses under the supervision of district collectors.
Following are the prices of brands.
Whiskey prices:
Royal Challengers Whiskey Quarter – Rs.230
8 PM Whiskey Quarter – Rs.230,
Officers Choice Whiskey Quarter – Rs.150
Mc Dowells No1 Whiskey Quarter – Rs.180,
A quarter of whiskey is priced between Rs.150 and Rs.230 depending on the brand.
Brandy prices:
Mansion House Quarter is priced at Rs.240, Old Monk Rum Quarter costs Rs. 230, Vodka Magic Moments Quarter costs Rs.230
Beer prices:
Kingfisher Splendid Strong Beer is priced at Rs. 200, Kingfisher Storm Regal Strong Beer is available at Rs.220.
Curbing illegal liquor sales:
Andhra Pradesh state government has closed old state-run shops on Tuesday night, giving way for private liquor shops to be opened on Wednesday. It is also introducing low-cost liquor priced at Rs 99, aimed at providing alcohol at affordable rates.
The state hopes that the new policy will curb illegal liquor sales, boost competition, tourism and tax revenues.
APSBCL is preparing to supply the types of alcohol ordered by the licensees and all brands available across the country will be made available in AP within a week. In the wake of the announcement that a quarter of liquor will be sold at Rs.99, four national companies are ready to provide it at that prices.
State government taxes:
The state has imposed a new Drug Control Cess on liquor and tax will be levied at 2 percent on the ‘landed cost’. It is estimated that government could collect a revenue of Rs.90 crore to Rs.100 crore per year.
