The AP government has decided to close schools and colleges in four rain-affected districts, including Tirupati, Chittoor, Nellore, and Prakasam till October 17.

Vijayawada: The Government of Andhra Pradesh has directed all educational institutions to remain shut starting Monday. Heavy rains are expected in several parts of the districts, and the government has ordered the closure of schools and colleges in four rain-affected districts, including Tirupati, Chittoor, Nellore, and Prakasam. Sources suggest that AP school holidays may continue until October 17. However, a few schools in the Tugo district have also requested a holiday due to incessant rains.
Earlier, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted heavy rains across the state until Thursday. The rains are attributed to a low-pressure system formed over the southern part of the Bay of Bengal. The government has issued early warnings to district collectors and instructed them to prepare for potential disasters. As part of the preparedness measures, the district collectors have ordered educational institutions to remain closed until Thursday.
Parents and students are advised to stay in contact with school authorities regarding the reopening of schools. It is also recommended to follow the latest updates on the official social media handles of the education department or ministry.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has also decided to close all educational institutions in view of the heavy rains. Schools and colleges remain closed in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Chengalpattu districts on October 15.
Earlier, the AP government had declared holidays for schools and junior colleges in the state. Educational institutions were closed from October 3 to 13, 2024. All educational institutions reopened on October 14 after a 10-day holiday. The Dusshera festival commenced on October 3 and concluded on October 12 with Vijayadashami.
