Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has told a city court that omissions on the part of Sandip Ghosh, the former RG Kar Medical College and Hospital principal and Abhijit Mondal, former SHO of Tala police station, with regard to the attempt to hush up the matter and destruction of evidence have surfaced and investigation against them is in progress.
CBI has filed a chargesheet against prime accused Sanjay Roy
The CBI has said this in a chargesheet filed before a city court against prime accused Sanjay Roy in the rape and murder case of a trainee woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
The CBI, which is investigating the rape and murder of the victim woman doctor at the seminar room of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9 on the orders of the Calcutta High Court, has told the court that investigation against Ghosh and Mondal, who are currently lodged in judicial custody, is in progress and a supplementary final report will be filed before the court after completion of further investigation.
Omissions on part of Mondal and Ghosh with regard to attempt to hush up matter, destruction of evidence have surfaced: CBI
“The acts/omissions on the part of Abhijit Mondal, the then SHO, Tala and Sandip Ghosh, the then principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital with regard to attempt to hush up the matter, destruction of evidence have surfaced and both of them have been arrested and presently are in judicial custody. Investigation against them on the aspect of involvement of others, if any, in the commission of crime or its abetment is in progress. After completion of further investigation, supplementary final report will be filed,” the CBI has said in its chargesheet filed against prime accused Roy urging the court to take cognisance of the chargesheet.
Woman doctor was raped, murdered on August 9
A trainee woman doctor was allegedly raped and murdered at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9 when she had gone to sleep in the seminar room of the hospital during a break. Her body was later that night found with severe injuries in the seminar room. The Kolkata Police arrested Roy, who was working as a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, on August 10 for his alleged involvement in crime.
CBI arrested Ghosh, Mondal on September 14 for alleged tampering of evidence
The CBI arrested Ghosh and Mondal on September 14 for alleged tampering of evidence and delay in filing of First Information Report (FIR) in the rape and murder case of the woman doctor.
CBI has also arrested Ghosh in financial irregularities case
The CBI has also arrested Ghosh and his two alleged associates on September 2 for his alleged involvement in the financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital during his tenure as the principal of the institute. The case of alleged financial irregularities at the institute was transferred by the High Court from the state government-constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the CBI on a petition by a former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognisance of incident
The High Court had earlier transferred the investigation of the rape and murder of the trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital from the Kolkata Police to the CBI on a batch of pleas seeking an investigation into the conduct of the hospital authorities, including the role of Ghosh and other officials by a special team of investigating officers. The Supreme Court has taken a suo motu cognisance of the incident and is currently seized of the matter.
