New Delhi: In the hustle and bustle of modern life, maintaining the spark in a relationship can be a daunting task and at times may seem to be very difficult to carry and provide the time or energy like in the early days. Over time, the initial excitement may fade, leading to a sense of complacency. However, with conscious effort and commitment, it is entirely possible to reignite the passion and restore the vitality of a relationship.

During the initial days of the relationship, people love spending time with each other, they make efforts, make the partner feel special and do stuff to keep the spark ignited. However, with time this may fade away and you and your partner may not spend as much time as before or do stuff to keep the relationship healthy and happy. There are studies, that have looked at the brains of people who are newly in love have found that this state of intense passion mimics that of drug addiction. The couple just can’t seem to get enough of one another.

It is believed that people invest more time and effort during the initial days to commit and win the trust of their partner, however, once it is done they both feel secure in the relationship they broaden the focus and not only keep themselves involved with the partner. There are many ways to keep the spark alive after years and make the relationship happy.

A study in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology offers a different idea, the authors of the study say that to increase passion, couples should first grow as individuals. They should seek new experiences and skills on their own, and then bring these new qualities back to the relationship, but not too much. It is really important to love yourself first then only you will be able to learn from your partner and have a happy life with them.

Tips to keep the spark alive

  1. Prioritise Communication: Effective communication is the cornerstone of any strong relationship. Partners must be open and honest with each other about their feelings, desires, and concerns.
  2. Foster Emotional Intimacy: Emotional intimacy is the bedrock of a passionate relationship. It involves being vulnerable and allowing your partner to see your true self.
  3. Embrace Physical Affection: Physical touch is a powerful way to maintain connection and intimacy. Simple gestures such as holding hands, hugging, or giving a massage can convey love and affection.
  4. Rediscover Each Other: Over the years, people change and evolve. Taking the time to rediscover each other can bring a fresh perspective to the relationship. Ask questions, show interest in each other’s current passions and pursuits, and be willing to explore new aspects of your partner’s personality.
