Former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar had met Yediyurappa at the latter’s residence after the BJP did not give him a ticket from Dharwad and Haveri Lok Sabha constituencies.
Jagadish Shettar met BS Yediyurappa on Thursday night in Bengaluru.
Bengaluru: Former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday said that he has pacified Jagadish Shettar to contest from Belagavi. Shettar had met Yediyurappa at the latter’s residence in Bengaluru. Shettar was eyeing a ticket from Dharwad or Haveri but the BJP high command gave them to Pralhad Joshi and Basavaraj Bommai respectively.
Shettar who had joined Congress in April last year after the BJP denied him a ticket from Hubballi-Dharwad (Central) constituency in the Assembly elections, returned to his original party in January. Yediyurappa and BJP state president BY Vijayendra played a crucial role in bringing him back to the party.
Shettar had reportedly sought a Lok Sabha ticket from the BJP high command before he joined the BJP. The former CM was eyeing the Dharwad or Haveri Lok Sabha seat, but the BJP fielded Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and former CM Basavaraj Bommai from the two seats respectively.
Worried, Shettar on Thursday rushed to Bengaluru and met Yediyurappa and discussed about the ticket.
On Friday, while speaking to reporters, Yediyurappa said that he managed to pacify Shettar to contest from the Belagavi Lok Sabha constituency.
“Jagadish Shettar met me. He was not interested in contesting from Belagavi. I spoke and convinced him to contest from Belagavi, and he has agreed to it. We will easily win from Belagavi and Shettar will contest. We will win all 28 seats from Karnataka and Modi will be the PM again,” Yediyurappa said.
Yediyurappa’s statement has put speculations to rest as the sitting MP Mangala Angadi and former MLC Mahantesh Kavatagimath were eyeing the ticket.
The BJP has announced 20 names so far and the other five names are likely to be announced shortly. The other three are likely to go into JDS’ kitty.
