Mumbai: The Central Railway, on Thursday, announced that Mumbai Main Line trains will operate on revised timings starting October 5. Over 83 trains across various routes will be affected due to the change. The timings have been revised with an aim to improve the overall efficiency of the train services. These changes are part of a broader effort to streamline operations and improve punctuality, helping passengers plan their trips more accurately and cut down on time-consuming delays.
A significant adjustment in the new timetable includes the extension of 21 trains, which originally started and ended at Dadar. These trains will now extend their services to Panvel, offering greater convenience to passengers commuting between these two key locations. This is particularly beneficial for passengers who previously had to switch trains to reach Panvel, and the change is expected to reduce congestion at Dadar station.
In another move to prevent overcrowding, the newly constructed Platform 11 will accommodate 11 pairs of fast trains, previously operating from CSMT (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus). This shift is expected to ease the passenger load at both CSMT and Dadar stations, making travel safer and more efficient, especially during rush hours.
Suburban routes
The new timetable also brings a key change for suburban routes. Six trains that previously started and ended at Thane will now run up to Kalyan, improving connectivity in the suburbs and reducing the need for additional transfers. Additionally, 20 fast trains—10 in each direction—will begin their journeys at Dadar instead of CSMT, as part of efforts to manage congestion and improve commuter experience.
Other changes include nine suburban trains that will run with revised timings and updated train numbers. Furthermore, 10 other services will see changes to their starting and ending points, enhancing overall operational efficiency.
For late-night commuters, the last train to Karjat, Train S1, will depart CSMT at 12:12 am, while the last service to Kasara, Train N1, will now leave CSMT at 12:08 am. These revisions will provide better late-night connectivity for those traveling longer distances across the city.
In a bid to enhance peak-hour connectivity, the timetable introduces additional halts for certain fast trains. For instance, Train A20 will now stop at Kalava at 8:56 a.m during the morning rush, and Train AN8 will make a halt at Mumbra at 9:23 am. Similarly, evening peak trains such as BL41 will stop at Kalva at 7:29 pm, while TL47 will halt at Mumbra at 7:47 pm.
9 fast trains between Thane-Kalyan
Finally, the Central Railway is introducing nine new fast train services between Thane and Kalyan, with key stops at Kurla and Dombivli, providing further improvements to the suburban rail network.
These changes, including extended services, revised timings, and additional halts, are expected to significantly improve the travel experience for the thousands of daily commuters, providing them with more convenient and efficient journeys even during the busiest hours.
The Central Railway’s timetable revision for the Mumbai Main Line from October 5 aims to provide smoother, more reliable services for commuters, reducing congestion and ensuring better connectivity across the city and its suburbs.
