Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) issued a show cause notice to the management of Taj Mahal restaurant in Abids after a customer found a worm in the food on Tuesday.
Following the complaint of worms in Dal, food safety officials conducted an inspection and as per a statement by the civic body, cockroaches were also found in the storage area of the restaurant. A rat was also found in the premises as per reports.
Food safety officials of the GHMC said that many defects were found during inspection including lack of hygiene and sanitation management, non-compliance of food safety standards, no labels on food items and cockroach presence in the storage area.
Crackdown on food establishments:
Food safety officials have been raiding restaurants in various parts of the city to check for violations of hygiene and food safety standards. Many eateries have fallen short of required standards.
On September 24, Nizam and Fateh Maidan clubs came under scrutiny for operating with no valid FSSAI license and not displaying the FSSAI license copy respectively.
Prior to that, Meridian restaurant in Panjagutta, Jalpaan restaurant in Somajiguda, were searched, uncovering hygiene violations.
Paan shops in Nacharam and Mallapur areas were found to be operating without valid FSSAI registration and no dustbins were found within the vicinity of the shop.
