Protests erupt in Musi catchment area against home demolitions

BRS delegation reached the area to stand in solidarity with the protestors while Congress alleged that the BRS and BJP are misleading the public about the ongoing demolitions.

Residents in Sai Ram Nagar Colony, Hydershakote in the Musi River catchment area of Hyderabad protested against home demolitions on Sunday by Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA).

A delegation of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs and MLCs led by T Harish Rao and Indra Sabitha Reddy visited Hydershakote to inspect the Musi River catchment area. The leaders of BRS met with the residents and extended solidarity to their protests.

Residents of Sai Ram Nagar Colony demand clarity:

Speaking to News9, a resident of Sai Ram Nagar Colony, N Raghavendra said, “Officials claim it’s for the restoration and beautification of the Musi river. Our houses have been digitally marked as being in the buffer zone of the Musi river, and we fear they may be demolished at any time.”

Raghavendra further stated that they acquired all permissions and documentation legally during the construction of our house. “Our house was constructed in 2001 with all the necessary approvals, including plans from the Panchayat Raj and HUDA,” he added.

The residents of Sai Ram Nagar colony have also expressed similar concerns and said that the lack of transparency by officials is causing them anxiety.

“If the houses were built with all proper approvals and documentation, then any sudden move to demolish them without due process should be legally questioned,” Raghavendra said.

The residents have been living in the area for decades, paying property taxes and following proper procedures. Disrupting such established communities without proper consultation or compensation is immoral and unethical. This is disrupting our daily lives, he said.

Congress slams BRS, BJP for ‘fear mongering’:

Meanwhile, Congress leaders, including TPCC secretary general  Addanki Dayakar and spokespersons have alleged that the BRS and BJP are misleading the public about the ongoing demolitions in the Full Tank Level (FTL) and Buffer Zones of lakes and other water bodies. They said that Harish Rao and KTR are instilling fear through misinformation about Hydraa and Musi river development project.
