AP: Two medical students drown in Maredumilli stream, search on for third student

National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) were alerted to conduct search operations in the waterfalls. They located bodies of two students on Monday morning and are searching for the third one.

Two medical students drowned in the swollen stream of Maredumilli, Alluri Sitharamaraju district and the search for third one is on, police officials said on Monday.

On Sunday, five medicos were swept away at Jalatharangini waterfalls in Maredumilli, out of whom two were rescued by forest and police officials but three other missing students could not be found, ASR police superintendent Amit Bardar said. The survivors were identified as Harini Priya, B Prajna and Gayatri Puspa.

He stated that the bodies of two students were found on Monday at around 7 am and that National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) are searching for the third one. The area is a dense forest and heavy rain was observed in the area.

The students were swept away in the stream due to heavy rain briefly in the upper reaches of Maredumilli, a picturesque vacation spot in the Eastern Ghats.

A contingent of 14 students from Asram Medical college in Eluru were on a fun trip to the spot when tragedy struck.

The police have registered a case and an investigation is underway.
