Isha Yoga Center: Tamil Nadu police probe allegations of brainwashing, exploitation

The Madras High Court judges questioned Jaggi Vasudev, founder of Isha Foundation, about encouraging young women to renounce worldly life and live as hermits at the yoga centers, while his own daughter is married and well-settled. The court has ordered the police to submit a detailed report by the 4th of this month.

Coimbatore: The Isha Yoga Center in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore has come under scrutiny as police and social welfare officials launch an investigation following a Madras High Court order. This development stems from a petition filed by Professor Kamaraj, who claims his two daughters, volunteers at the center, are being held against their will and converted into monks.

Professor Kamaraj alleges that his daughters, Geetha and Lata, are being brainwashed and prevented from visiting their relatives. He also cited a POCSO case registered against a doctor associated with the center. During court proceedings, Geetha reportedly told her father she would fast until death unless cases against the Isha Yoga Center were dropped.

Madras High Court Cracks Down on Isha Yoga Center: Investigation Ordered

The Madras High Court judges questioned Jaggi Vasudev, founder of Isha Foundation, about encouraging young women to renounce worldly life and live as hermits at the yoga centers, while his own daughter is married and well-settled.

The court has ordered the police to submit a detailed report by the 4th of this month. Consequently, a team of over 50 police officers and officials, led by SP Karthikeyan, is conducting an investigation at the Isha Yoga Center.

This is not the first time the Isha Foundation has faced allegations. Six people have been reported missing from the center since 2016, sparking concerns about its activities. The court’s ruling will shed light on the validity of these allegations.
