New Delhi: Team India’s star wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant is set to be retained by Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. The league’s governing council recently announced the player retention rules for the upcoming season.

As per the new regulations, the IPL governing council announced that each franchise can retain a maximum of 6 players using retention or the Right to Match (RTM) options. The league has not set any limit on the number of local and overseas players a franchise can retain. However, the franchises are allowed to retain a maximum of five capped players and a maximum of two uncapped players.

Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav to be retained

As per a PTI report, Delhi Capitals have decided to retain just three players. Rishabh Pant will be the first retention for INR 18 crore, while all-rounder Axar Patel and spinner Kuldeep Yadav will be the other two retentions and they will get INR 14 crore and 11 crore respectively.

The Delhi-based franchise will head into the mega-auction with three RTMs and will look to bring back the likes of Jake Fraser-McGurk, Mitchell Marsh, Tristan Stubbs and Harry Brook. According to the report, Fraser-McGurk and Stubbs are two players for whom DC will be using RTMs.

Hemang Badani to become Delhi Capitals new head coach – Reports

As per the same report, Former India cricketer Hemang Badani is leading the race to become the new head coach of Delhi Capitals and Munaf Patel is set to take over as the bowling coach. Delhi Capitals recently sacked Ricky Ponting as head coach after they failed to win a trophy during his tenure.

“DC management is looking at quality home-grown coaches and Hemang and Munaf’s names have cropped up. A final decision is yet to be taken but in case of Munaf, it could be bowling coach’s job” an IPL source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
