Enthusiastic families had gathered at the Marina beach before 11 am to witness the air show on the occasion of the 92nd IAF Day celebration. Many were seen shading themselves from the blinding sun with umbrellas.

New Delhi: In a tragic accident in Chennai,  four people who went to watch the air show at Marina Beach have died. According to the doctors one of them had heat stroke. On the occasion of the 92nd Indian Airforce (IAF) Day celebration lakhs of spectators had gathered at Marina Beach to enjoy the air show.

Due to the intense heat and the huge crowd, many spectators were seen hiding from the sun with umbrellas. Initial reports suggest that the deceased have been identified as, John, Srinivasan, Karthikeyan and Dinesh Kuma.

With the sun beating down relentlessly, thousands of people were left suffocating in the packed beach. Over 230 people fainted, succumbing to heatstroke, and over a hundred were admitted to nearby hospitals. The tragedy claimed the lives of four people: John, Srinivasan, Karthikeyan, and Dinesh Kumar, highlighting the devastating impact of the chaotic event.

The lack of basic amenities, including readily available drinking water, exacerbated the suffering of the crowd. The removal of nearby water vendors only added to the discomfort of the attendees. As the show concluded, the mass exodus of people onto Kamarajar Salai resulted in a complete traffic blockade, further adding to the chaos and distress.

To witness the airshow almost 15 lakh people had gathered at the beach. The aftermath of the event has triggered widespread criticism over the lack of planning and preparation.
